Delaware Bay Oyster Stock Assessment
Each year since 1953, the Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory has conducted a dredge survey of the natural oyster (seed) beds on the New Jersey side of the Delaware Bay. Since 1998, the survey results have provided a quantitative estimate of the abundance of oysters on these beds. To review the results and make recommendations to the Delaware Bay (NJ) Shellfish Council, a stock assessment workshop (SAW) is convened early each year. It consists of four fisheries experts from outside HSRL, two members of the Delaware Bay Shellfisheries Council, and two members of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. SAW reports are available for downloading below.
