From Delaware Memorial Bridge
Stay in the center lane as you come off the bridge and look for the sign to RT 40 east and Atlantic City . Follow RT 40 east for about 27 miles until it intersects with RT 55 (watch for sharp but well-marked turns on RT 40 in Woodstown and in Elmer). Take RT 55 south. (Skip to VI)
From Philadelphia Airport
Take I-95 south from the airport and cross into New Jersey on RT 322 east via the Commodore Barry Bridge . Continue on RT 322 until it intersects with RT 55. Take RT 55 south. (Skip to VI)
From New Jersey Turnpike
Take exit #7 to Bordentown , NJ and either I-295 or RT 206 south.
I-295 : Take I-295 south and exit onto 42 south. Stay left following RT 42 South/Atlantic City and take the second exit to RT 55 south. (Skip to VI)
RT 206 : Follow RT 206 south to Hammonton. At intersection of RTS 206 and 30, keep in the center lane and go straight across RT 30 onto RT 54 south. Go through downtown Hammonton and continue approximately 10 miles to the intersection of RT 40 and RT 54 at Buena (Wawa is on the right just before traffic light). Proceed through intersection and go about 0.2 miles. Turn left (at fork) on RT 655 ( Lincoln Ave ). After about 11 miles, RT 655 ends at RT 555. Turn left on RT 555, cross the bridge and immediately exit right onto RT 55 South. (Skip to VI)
From Garden State Parkway
Going south , take exit 25 ( Marmora-Ocean City ). At the first traffic light, turn right onto Roosevelt Blvd. Proceed straight through second light. Continue on RT 631 to RT 50. Yield right at RT 50 and follow signs to Tuckahoe.
Going north , take exit 20 and proceed on RT 50 north to Tuckahoe.
In Tuckahoe , make a left onto RT 49 (at blinker light). Continue approximately 3 miles. Take RT 548 (branches to left). Follow RT 548 approximately 10 miles to RT 47 at Port Elizabeth . Take RT 47 south about 2 miles. Follow RT 47 south by staying right where it branches with RT 347. At the traffic light (Citgo and Wawa on right) turn right. (Skip to VII).
Note if RT 548 turnoff was missed, stay on RT 49 until it intersects with RT 55 (Skip to VI).
From Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal
From the ferry, follow RT 9 north to fourth traffic light. Turn left and proceed about 5 miles (still on RT 9) to the intersection of RTS 47 and 9. Turn left onto RT 47 north. Follow RT 47 north about 20 miles. At the traffic light/junction of RTS 47 and 347, stay on RT 347 north to the next traffic light. Turn left at the light and proceed straight through second light (Wawa on left, Citgo on right). (Skip to VII).
From RT 55
Continue on RT 55 until it ends at traffic light and becomes RT 47 south. Proceed along RT 47 about 3 miles. Stay right (straight) on RT 47 when it splits into RT 47 and RT 347. At the traffic light (Citgo and Wawa on the right) turn right. (Go to VII).
From RT 47 and Wawa /Citgo
Proceed over the Mauricetown Bridge through two blinker lights. Follow the RT 649 signs. At the stop sign, turn left and proceed about 3 miles to the Y’. Bear left at the Y’. Continue about one mile to stop sign (RT 553-Main Street, Port Norris). Turn right, go ½ block and turn left towards Bivalve. Go ¾ mile and turn right at stop sign. Proceed to where road veers right. Rutgers University-Haskin Shellfish Lab is on your left. Look for sign at edge of parking lot.

From Garden State Parkway
Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 4 (Rio Grande/RT 47). Exiting from south – turn left at the bottom of the ramp; from north turn right at bottom of the ramp. This puts you north bound on Route 47. (Go to IV). (Back to Top)
From Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal
Bear right when exiting the ferry terminal onto RT 9 and continue to the fourth traffic light. Turn left and proceed about 5 miles (still on RT 9/Shore Drive) to the intersection of RTS 47 and 9. (Go to IV). (Back to Top)
From South End of Route 55
At its southern end, RT 55 funnels into RT 47. Continue on RT 47 about 3 miles, then bear left on RT 347 (RT 47 continues straight) and continue through 2 traffic lights (RT 347 rejoins RT 47 at the second light). Look for King Nummy Camp Ground and then mile marker 8, on the right about 10 miles after the 347/47 junction. Look for an unmarked shell road on your right (may be marked 297) and follow he shell road (obeying the 10 mile per hour speed limit) for about a mile to the Rutgers University Cape Shore Laboratory through the gate at the end of the road when you reach Delaware Bay. The first building on the left is our dormitory and you may park there. Walk around the bend to the two-story hatchery/laboratory/office buildings. (Back to Top)
From Intersection of Routes 9 and 47
Continue north on Route 47 for ~5-6 miles and Turn left just past Delsea Woods Community onto an unmarked crushed shell road (if pass King Nummy Campground and/or reach the traffic light at Indian Trail Rd, you have gone about a half mile too far). Simply follow the shell road (obeying the 10 mile per hour speed limit) for about a mile to the Rutgers University Cape Shore Laboratory through the gate at the end of the road when you reach Delaware Bay. The first building on the left is our dormitory and you may park there. Walk around the bend to the two-story hatchery/laboratory/office buildings. (Back to Top)
