When dermo disease moved into the Delaware Bay in 1990, it doubled the background level of natural mortality across the natural oyster beds in the upper portion of the Bay that support the NJ Delaware Bay oyster fishery. Periodic sampling was immediately initiated to understand the distribution and impact of the disease by Dr. Susan Ford. Around 1998, Dr. Ford began monitoring disease and mortality along the salinity gradient spanning the natural seed beds. Since 2003, monthly monitoring has provided critical information information to understand disease dynamics that are used to inform management of the oyster resource. On this page you will find a link to the most recent monthly report and an archive of the annual monthly monitoring program reports that inform the annual stock assessment.
