After the first epizootics of MSX disease in Delaware Bay in 1957 and the Chesapeake Bay in 1959, researchers trying to figure out the causes and possible remedies began a series of annual, informal workshops, to present and discuss information that had been obtained during the previous year.
The first two were convened at Rutgers University. Thereafter, they rotated among the laboratories prinicipally involved in oyster disease research. In total, 9 conferences were held between 1959 and 1967. A brief, new series was started in 1983, partly to show off the new laboratory (HSRL). The downloadable files listed below are scanned copies of summaries and/or abstracts that we have found in the HSRL files. These are undoubtedly not complete records of what was presented – most were prepared by HSRL researchers – and discussed at these meetings; however, they provide some interesting and valuable historical insights into the early investigations of molluscan disease.
